The Latest on This Year’s Big Damn Shindig

As I mentioned in my last Cap’n’s Blog, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the motion picture Serenity, and the California Browncoats are doing something very unique to celebrate that milestone.

Browncoats from all over the ‘verse are invited to gather in Newhall, California (an historic suburb of Los Angeles) from September 18-21 to attend the Big Damn Shindig, a first-of-its-kind celebration combining the Browncoat Ball with a Can’t Stop the Serenity charity screening.

There are only about two weeks left to purchase early-bird tickets to the event, with the price of registration set to go up on April 7.  So, if you want to reserve your spot at the very best price, then “faster would be better,” as Mal would say.  And if you want to stay at the Hotel Lexen in Newhall, the hotel where all the action is going to be, you can’t wait a whole lot longer to reserve your room either.  There are only a little over a dozen rooms left in the Browncoat Ball’s block that are available at a special event price.  (Make sure you use the code “14ADV” when making your reservation.)

As one of three Browncoats from our brigade who are serving on the committee that is planning the event, I can assure you that the Big Damn Shindig is going to be a Browncoats event like no other.  I talked a little bit about some of the exciting things that are planned for the weekend in my last Cap’n’s Blog, but I feel the need to stress again that the Big Damn Shindig actually includes a tour of several of the shooting locations from both Firefly and Serenity.  No other host city for a Browncoat Ball can offer that opportunity, and I’m sure it will be even more special to see those locations while in the company of other Browncoats.  For more information about that (as well as other aspects of the Big Damn Shindig) as it becomes available, visit the Browncoat Ball’s official website at browncoatball.com

If you don’t like letting go of money you don’t have to though, make sure you’re not too slow about it.

Keep flyin’,

Chris
